Review : to-dos

Not enough to-do apps? Here is one that wants want to occupy your start screen and help you manage your tasks in a simple and easy way. Can it make a mark? Let’s see.

Design:

This application is very simple and clean in its looks. It has very few elements on its page and yet works well. It uses the color yellow very predominantly and might get quite annoying sometimes. The app has just a text box and a button to enter input rest of the screen space is used for the list, not quite though. Overall, the app is designed with simplicity in mind and really works well.

Use and Features:

to-do is a productivity application that lets you create and use small task lists, to-do lists and other lists. This is a very simple app and a less than 1 megabyte download.

All the items can be entered using a text box. Though the app has an ‘add’ button, after typing the item to be saved it is not necessary to press the button, rather hitting the return key serves the same purpose. Neat.

You can delete items by clicking on the check box and tada!

The app does not let you create various lists and segregate items to each. It is just a single list and this is the biggest problem with the app. Creating a number of lists is just a dream and app won’t gain traction with people who have very sophisticated to-do lists.

Otherwise, if just a single list suffices you, this app suffers with another problem. It has one list and you can put no more than 12 items in the list. So overall the app cannot save more than 12 items even if you want it to. Bad. This might render the app useless for almost all of them who are serious about their lists. It is not understood why the developer decided to do this.

Meanwhile the app supports a live tile. It does this best. Shows you the latest items on the tile and the total number of to-dos in the app. There is a problem here too, if the app is loaded with 12 items then only the 9th and 10th items are displayed on the tile. Very odd.

The only feature that does not suffer with any issues is the snapped view. It shrinks and adjusts beautifully to show all the items in the list.

Performance:

The app opens up and loads fast without any hiccups. It doesn’t force quit or crash as much as the other Windows apps are quite used to. It’s a pleasant experience overall.

Wrap-Up:

to-dos is a very clean looking, simple to use and a very light weight app. It works very well for casual purposes and lacks a serious feature set. The live tile support and snapped view support make it more usable. Yet the lack of lists, limit on items and other small glitches here and there doesn’t make it the best to-do app in the market. But we were impressed by the simplicity and ease of use. We would definitely encourage you to try this one out. This opens us the realm for an elegant yet powerful to-do app.
